Theory meets Experiment: The Top-Higgs connection

Theoretical particle physicists from the group Grazzini have completed a new precision calculation for the production of the Higgs boson in association with a top-antitop quark pair at hadron colliders

Higgs-Top connection
The associated production of a Higgs boson with a top-antitop quark pair is a crucial process at the Large Hadron Collider since it allows for a direct measurement of the top-quark Yukawa coupling.  Theoretical particle physicists at the University of Zurich (group Grazzini) have completed a new computation of the cross section for this process that includes perturbative corrections up to the second order in Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD). The calculation is obtained by exploiting techniques that combine scattering amplitudes generated with automated tools also developed in Zurich (research group Pozzorini), with sophisticated analytic methods and advanced numerical integration techniques. Such result paves the way to more accurate Monte Carlo simulations for this important process.
